It consists of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cycadgroup.org\/?page_id=8\">a group of\u00a0volunteer experts<\/a> addressing conservation issues related to cycads, a highly threatened group of land plants.<\/p>\n<p>The CSG exists to bring together the world\u2019s cycad conservation expertise, and to disseminate this expertise to organizations and agencies which can use this guidance to advance cycad conservation.\u00a0The CSG published a <a href=\"https:\/\/portals.iucn.org\/library\/node\/8203\" target=\"_blank\">status survey and conservation action plan\u00a0for cycads<\/a> in 2003.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/portals.iucn.org\/library\/node\/8203\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/portals.iucn.org\/library\/sites\/library\/files\/styles\/publication\/public\/book_covers\/BC-2003-010.jpg?itok=GdE6WAQu\" alt=\"Cycads: Status Survey and Conservation Action Plan\" width=\"200\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The primary\u00a0objectives of the CSG include:\u00a0coordinating\u00a0extinction risk assessments for cycads for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">IUCN Red List of Threatened Species<\/a>,\u00a0maintaining an up to date consensus taxonomy for this group\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/cycadlist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The World List of Cycads<\/a>),\u00a0developing a network of established genebanks for ex situ cycad conservation,\u00a0promoting sustainable practices in trade and utilization of cycads, and advancing our understanding of this\u00a0highly threatened plant group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cycad Specialist Group (CSG) is\u00a0a member\u00a0of the IUCN Species Survival Commission\u00a0(IUCN\/SSC).
